Hanging Out in Hawaii August 10, 2025
On August 8th, the IAHD Champions hosted their second annual luau at outside the DeVito conference center. The space was transformed into an island-like getaway, with Hawaiian themed decor throughout, including a banner made by the IAHD Champions as seen in the back of this photo. The Champions invited all of IAHD, meaning the three day programs, Day Hab Without Walls, and anyone else who lives at an IAHD residence but does not attend program with us; they even extended the invitation to the students with disabilities at Sleepy Hollow high school. By the end of the day, dozens of staff members and individuals had stopped by!

Luau activities included tiki mini golf and ring toss, both of which had prizes the participant could win! Naya is playing with her ring toss prize, a tube of bubbles, in last image in the below gallery.

There was a very popular temporary tattoo station, which many people participated in, eager to show off their new body artwork!

The final activity set up was an informal photobooth and wireless clicker for people to pose in front of and take pictures, even if they didn’t have someone to take the picture for them.

Overall, the morning was perfect to get our hula on and spend time with friends in other programs, other residences, and even students from Sleepy Hollow High School! Before leaving this island paradise in Pleasantville, everyone had a pizza lunch with lemonade and ice pops and brownies for dessert!

Thank you to Kayla, Holly, and the IAHD Champions for hosting such a tropically terrific party!
