IAHD provides a variety of different types Day Habilitation Programs and Work Readiness programs that can accommodate the varying abilities and preferences of the adults who are enrolled in our programs.

IAHD offers several options for Day Habilitation programming, but all are designed to accommodate the individual needs and preferences of the people who are enrolled in our program. In fact, person centered planning is so central to our operation that we considered the wants and preferences of our participants in designing the programs and the activities offered to people. Our Day Habilitation programs offer choices of curriculum activities, and centers have been designed to define these choices. Art studios, music centers, computer and communication rooms and fitness centers are amongst some of the activities that are offered. Blended Pre-Vocational Day Habilitation programs offer individuals training in a variety of vocationally oriented tasks. The Day Habilitation without Walls programs allow individuals to fully experience opportunities in the community that reflect their person centered preferences, while training them to meet their valued outcomes and help them move closer towards self-actualization. The “Without Walls” concept puts learning in the natural environments of all the rich resources the NYC environment has to offer.
IAHD also offers a “Work Readiness” program which provides opportunities for people to work in supervised settings and to earn a small stipend. Our own buildings, as well as other community locations, provide opportunities for individuals to learn cleaning and maintenance skills, photocopying, kitchen assistance and other valued work skills.

Vibrant Self-Advocacy programs have formed in all of our day program centers. These Self-Advocates have formed a basketball team and play competitively. They volunteer in area hospitals, participate in leadership conferences and are constantly seeking new opportunities for themselves and the people whom they represent.

Clinical services, including speech, nutritional, psychological, medical and nursing oversight, are available in all of our day programs.

Programs are located at:
3625 Bainbridge Avenue Bronx, New York 10467 718-920-0811

We provide instructional and therapeutic programs for children with learning, language, motor, communication and behavioral challenges. These programs are available to all children who qualify from birth to 21 years of age. Find out more.

IAHD’s Early Intervention Services are available for children from birth to three years of age. IAHD provides service coordination, evaluations, family training, speech and language, physical and occupational therapy and special instruction in a center-based facility. If you have concerns about your child’s development, you should call 311 and ask for “Early Intervention” assistance. If your child qualifies for services and is authorized to receive these services by the Bronx Early Intervention Program, they will be provided at no cost to you.

The Preschool Program is available to children between the ages of 3 and 5. Children receive evaluations to determine their eligibility for this program, and if they qualify, they can attend IAHD’s center based preschool program at no charge. Various therapies can be provided at the center. Depending on the need of the child and the recommendation of the district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) team, the child can attend the program to receive instruction on meeting individually prescribed objectives.

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is an education program for four-year-olds. IAHD offers a government sponsored UPK program for two and a half hours daily during the school calendar year. Educational activities that prepare children for school are offered during this time. Children do not need to have a language/learning disability to attend this program, which is considered to be a readiness program for kindergarten.

IAHD’s School Age program has been designed for children whose special needs make it too difficult for this group of children to attend more traditional programs. A small teacher/student ratio and assistance in areas of living skills, as well as specialized teaching and training, make this a valuable program for students between the ages of 5 and 21.

Programs are located at:
St. Mary’s School, Preschool, Early Intervention and Evaluation Site
2213 East Tremont Avenue Bronx, New York 10462 PH: 718-683-3775
